Hit-and-Run Leaves Jogger Severely Injured in Greektown
A hit-and-run crash left a Greektown jogger with severe injuries and needing surgical intervention this past Sunday. Forty-four-year-old Kelly Mahan was crossing the street at Madison and Halston when a car turning right struck her and kept going.
Mahan’s sister told ABC 7, “My sister has been in surgery for six hours. She has three broken ribs, a broken ankle, she’s bruised up and down entire tracts on her body… Thank god there were amazing other civilians that helped her – called an ambulance. She had no phone, no ID… She could have died.”
There have been concerns about safety in West Loop, especially on Madison Street. “There’s been this boom in growth but safety and concern for pedestrians and cyclists alike has lagged behind that growth,” said Moshe Tamssot of True West Loop.
Mahan’s family says that after she survived a brain aneurysm a few years ago, running has been her therapy. She also ran competitively. However, now she is facing a series of “medical hurdles.” Mahan is currently in the trauma unit in critical condition.
Chicago police say the vehicle involved was a black Toyota RAV 4, and was last seen traveling south on Halston Street. As of Sunday night, no arrests have been made.
Gainsberg Injury and Accident Lawyers wishes Mahan a quick and healthy recovery.
