Congratulations, Viviana Barragan: You’re Our 2023 Gainsberg Injury and Accident Lawyers Annual Scholarship Recipient!

Gainsberg Injury and Accident Lawyers is proud to introduce Viviana Barragan, our 2023 recipient of the Gainsberg Injury and Accident Lawyers Annual Scholarship! Viviana is a 1L student attending Santa Clara University School of Law, and we expect big things from her.

As an undergraduate, Viviana interned in the legal department of both the Mexican Embassy in D.C. and the Mexican Consulate in Sacramento. There, she ran criminal background checks and organized local community support events. This work put her in an excellent position to help immigrants and undocumented people across the country.

Most of her working experience, Viviana told us, has been at a large Silicon Valley-based law firm. She’s worked in departments as varied as corporate law to real estate, but her heart – and her concerns – belong to helping communities in need. Her background at the Embassies gave her valuable insight into how foreign policies affect people around the world, and we were not surprised to learn that she is pursing a law degree with a focus on immigration.

As a first-generation college graduate whose parents speak limited English, Viviana understands deeply what it means to have such resources available when it comes to pursuing the best possible life in America. She also understand the true value of education: her parents were unable to continue their studies the way she is striving to continue hers. Her family, like so many others, has faced hard financial times these past couple of years, and she has taken on the financial burdens of helping to support her family here and her family in Mexico.

Viviana represents the best of who we are. As one of her professors said in a recommendation letter, “The substance of her work is outstanding, she writes with verve, she is imaginative, she is funny, and she is bold…. She is mature, incisive, kind, and she wants to help people who need lawyers, particularly in her community. In my opinion, the legal world needs more lawyers like her!”

About the Gainsberg Injury and Accident Lawyers Annual Scholarship Award

Every year, Gainsberg Injury and Accident Lawyers awards $2500 to a student enrolled in an accredited college or university to help support aspiring lawyers. We know this next generation of attorneys will help us keep our civil justice strong, and to give a voice to those in need.

We receive applications from extraordinary people every year. We selected Viviana Barragan as our scholarship recipient this year because we, too, believe we need more lawyers like her who will fight for equity and justice for EVERYONE.

Congratulations, Viviana! We wish you the very best of luck at Santa Clara University School of Law. We cannot wait to see what you do next.
